Systems Overview

SAP is one of the world’s largest software companies. Since 1972 they have been providing businesses with software that is essential to their daily operations. SAP revolutionized business operations by introducing “real time” software – companies had the ability to view information such as clock in times in a centralized electronic database. From there, they developed enterprise resource planning (ERP) software which allows businesses to improve performance by streamlining business processes. ERP software is designed to provide solutions across multiple facets of an organization, such as HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and IT.

SAP software is innovative in the sense that all department updates are in a central system. It collects stores, manages, and interprets data in one location and provides a consistent look and feel across all modules. For instance, if you had a manufacturing company and needed to track production status, instead of working with several disjoined systems, you would easily be able to track the status from inception to manufacturing to sale to delivery. The ability to move easily between modules is essential to the functionality; there is no need to train employees on multiple systems therefore saving valuable time and resources.

Being that IVK is a financial firm that specializes in loans, SAP would be useful in many ways. Recently IVK has undergone restructuring of its leadership. Utilizing SAP would integrate all aspects of the business and provide new and existing managers with the ability to view key information to make more informed and faster critical business decisions because of access to real-time information. IVK is in a transition right now and having the ability to quickly assess situations and make the appropriate decisions is integral to their success.

Efficiency in creating reports is another benefit of SAP software. All data is tracked so that reports can be generated quickly. Processes such as these can be scheduled to occur at the most convenient times for the operation. Managers have the ability to see how each department or area is functioning without having to go directly to that department or having to deal with a wait time for the information to be organized and provided thus, increasing efficiency and productivity by eliminating administrative time. This would also allow for easier identification of opportunities for improvement or the ability to quickly act to resolve issues. As the new IT manager discovered, there can be a disconnect between departments which results in a lack of understanding of how their work impacts the business. Utilizing SAP would allow for access of information outside of their department which would provide them with the insight as to how their role affects the success of the business.
